PCG employees caught back riding
MANILA, Philippines — While the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases has banned back riding while Metro Manila is under quarantine, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is investigating two employees who were allegedly caught violating the prohibition.
Facebook user Pinky Lim uploaded a photo of the employees riding a motorcycle with no license plate, saying she spotted them along Roxas Boulevard’s northbound lane on Tuesday.
The driver was wearing battle dress attire while the back rider was wearing the agency’s athletic uniform.
“Pag naka-uniform pwede angkas. Wala pang plate number (If in uniform, back riding is allowed. No plate number). Very good sir. Mapapamura ka na lang talaga (It will really make you curse),” Lim said.
Lim’s post had garnered more than 2,100 reactions and was shared more than 12,000 times as of yesterday afternoon.
PCG spokesman Commodore Armand Balilo told The STAR that he had submitted the photo to their intelligence division to conduct an investigation.
He said that the PCG would determine what sanctions might be imposed against the employees after the investigation is concluded.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority traffic czar Bong Nebrija said violators of the anti-back riding policy will be fined P5,000 and charged for violation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
