The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The city of Shenyang in northeast China and the Anvil Business Club recently donated a total of P45 million in cash and medical supplies to the Quezon City government led by Mayor Joy Belmonte as well several foundations and  local government units.

Mayor Jiang Youwei of Shenyang recently sent a shipment of face masks to Quezon City, its sister city. STAR columnist Wilson Lee Flores facilitated the donation with the help of Shenyang official Zhang Xiaowei and Quezon City tourism head Tetta Tirona.

Belmonte personally received the donation in a ceremony at the city hall, accompanied by disaster risk reduction head Mike Marasigan, Tirona, and officials from Anvil led by Flores, the club’s chairman; Hubert Chua, president and Jayson Sze, vice president.

Anvil Business Club is a business and civic association of young Filipino-Chinese entrepreneurs.

Flores also thanked former speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. for the assistance he gave in the civic project, which also promotes friendship between the Philippines and China.

June 9 is the 45th anniversary of Philippine-China diplomatic relations. Shenyang, briefly the imperial capital of the Qing dynasty in the 17th century, is now a major hub for the aerospace, machine tools, heavy equipment, software, automotive and electronics industries.

The business club also extended assistance to Hinabang Foundation through Honeylet Avanceña, Huamin Charity Foundation to 15 Metro Manila hospitals through Sen. Francis Pangilinan, GMA Kapuso Foundation through GMA chairman Felipe Gozon, Cavite Vice Gov. Jolo Revilla and San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora.
