BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — After being cooped up for more than two months due to the community quarantine, grandparents in this city can go out during Sundays.

Two of their grandchildren can also tag along.

“This is a special treat for lolas and lolos who had to endure being kept in their homes since March,” Mayor Benjamin Magalong said.

Magalong said Sunday is a “free day for senior citizens” as the other residents remain in their home for a barangay lockdown.

He stressed the need for the elderly to observe health and safety protocols, such as wearing of face masks, social distancing, frequent hand washing or disinfecting as well as cough and sneeze etiquettes, to prevent the spread of any disease.

Meanwhile, Magalong placed neighboring Barangays San Vicente and Poliwes on lockdown on Friday night for violations of quarantine protocols.

It was the second time that San Vicente was placed on lockdown.

The lockdown in Puroks 6 and 7 and Pinsao Proper in Barangay Dontogan, where the two recent COVID-19 cases were reported, has been lifted.
