2 Parañaque streets set for lockdown

Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two streets in Barangay San Dionisio, which has the most number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Parañaque City, would be placed under a three-day calibrated lockdown next week, the city government said yesterday.

In a statement, Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Tramo I and Tramo II would be under lockdown from Thursday morning to Saturday midnight.

San Dionisio has 101 of the 723 confirmed cases as of Friday night. Of the 723 cases, there have been 439 recoveries and 47 deaths.

“As per our health office, COVID-19 cases in Tramo I and II have tremendously increased the past weeks because of the family and community transmissions… prompting us to order the three-day lockdown,” Olivarez said.

The mayor said his move was in accordance with the call of the national government to place streets, instead of entire barangays, under a lockdown, to mitigate the impact on the economy.

During the lockdown, the mayor said that the city government would intensify targeted testing and monitoring and conduct total disinfection and flushing.

Barangay San Dionisio is the second village with streets placed under a calibrated lockdown. The city government earlier placed 10 streets of Barangay Baclaran under the same scheme.

The two barangays, along with San Antonio, are considered “under immediate concern” by the city government.

Persons who will violate the lockdown face fines and jail time as well as criminal charges, Olivarez said.
