2 slain in Maguindanao blasts
MAGUINDANAO , Philippines – Two girls were killed while 14 others were wounded in twin explosions in Datu Saudi town in this province on Sunday.
Aslamiya Tambak, 10, and her sister Asnaida, 7, died at the scene from shrapnel wounds. They were playing in front of their house in Barangay Kitango when the explosions ripped through the premises.
The victims’ mother Noraisa was among those wounded in the blasts.
Residents said mortar projectiles fired from a distance could have caused the explosions.
Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division dismissed insinuations that the supposed projectiles could have been fired by soldiers from nearby military camps.
“There was no Army operation in the area on Sunday,” Carreon said.
