San Juan posts zero COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — San Juan posted no additional coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the city yesterday.

Mayor Francis Zamora said the last time this happened since March 12 was on March 26. March 12 was when President Duterte imposed a partial lockdown on Metro Manila beginning at midnight on March 15.

Also yesterday, the city government noted no COVID-related deaths and 14 residents were reported to have recovered.

San Juan posted 302 confirmed cases, with 124 active cases, 138 recoveries and 40 deaths.

Navotas extends liquor ban

Mayor Toby Tiangco has signed ordinances extending the liquor ban and penalizing quarantine violations in Navotas.

In Ordinance 2020-24, the liquor ban is extended during the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) “or any modification thereof.”

The previous liquor ban in the city was only in place under the ECQ.

Violators of the liquor ban would be fined P1,000 or jailed for one day for the first offense; P3,000 or five days in jail for the second offense; and P5,000 or 10 days in jail for the third offense.

Establishments caught selling liquor could also lose their business permit and face closure.

The city government also passed Ordinance 2020-23, which penalizes gatherings, social distancing breaches and the non-use of face masks in public.

Violators would be fined with P250 and eight hours of community service for the first offense, P500 and 16 hours of community service for the second offense, and P750 and 24 hours of community service for the third offense.

Malabon launches contact tracing app

The Malabon City government launched on Friday a COVID-19 contact tracing application which will be used by the city health department to expedite the process of tracking down persons who may have been exposed to COVID-19.

City administrator Voltaire dela Cruz yesterday assured that the registration in the application will only be voluntary, amid data privacy concerns.

Barangay leaders will start going to residents this week to encourage people to register their personal information, like address and names of relatives and family members, on the application.

With its geotagging feature, the application will be used to guide city hall in determining the streets or barangays that need to be put on lockdown to contain the spread of the virus.
