MANILA, Philippines — A man who was riding a bicycle to work collapsed along EDSA in Makati City yesterday and died shortly afterwards.

Construction worker Enrique Minerva, 57, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Makati Medical Center.

Minerva had cycled from his home in Barangay Pag-asa, Quezon City and was on his way to work in Bicutan, Taguig City when he collapsed at the EDSA-Magallanes intersection at around 7 a.m., according to Edison Nebrija, EDSA traffic and discipline zone chief of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

An MMDA ambulance crew brought Minerva to the hospital, Nebrija said, adding that the victim’s brother-in-law told him Minerva used to work for the MMDA.

Nebrija said Minerva would ride his bicycle to and from work each day since the modified enhanced community quarantine was imposed on Metro Manila starting on May 16.

Minerva could have died of overfatigue, exhaustion or a pre-existing health condition, Nebrija said.
