8 nabbed for gambling

TUGUEGARAO, Philippines — Eight persons, including two barangay officials and six beneficiaries of the government’s social amelioration program (SAP) were arrested for gambling in Cagayan on Sunday.

Barangay secretary Elizabeth Tabia, 49, and treasurer Sharon Cenal, 40, both of Barangay Cabbagan, Pamplona town, were allegedly caught playing a game of cards with Elenita Maribung, 40, at the house of Adelina Arinabo.

Meanwhile, the six SAP beneficiaries had just received the emergency cash assistance when they were allegedly caught playing a game of cards in Barangay Lallayug, Tuao town.

Four of the six suspects managed to escape when the raiding team arrived at the scene.

Police recovered cash and sets of playing cards from the scene.
