Makati releases P364 million for 72,777 beneficiaries

MANILA, Philippines — Around P364 million in financial assistance has been released to 72,777 Makati residents in a span of one day, Mayor Abby Binay announced yesterday.

Binay said the amount was transferred to the GCash accounts of Makatizens card holders from the city’s 33 barangays.

The cash aid was part of the P2.7-billion expanded economic relief program of the city government.

“Those who already have Makatizen cards with a valid GCash account need not apply for the assistance since they will automatically receive P5,000 through e-Wallet. They can either cash out or withdraw the amount from any ATM or Globe partner outlet,” Binay said.

To claim the cash from a payment center, the cardholder must present a text message confirming the remittance to one’s Makatizen e-Wallet and any government-issued identification card.

The first batch of recipients of the P5,000 cash aid consisted of 31,785 residents from District 1 and 40,992 from District 2.

Mobile wallet GCash is providing Makati a digital disbursement of around P2.7 billion in economic aid to provide relief to 500,000 residents affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The use of the digital platform reduces the risk of transmission of the disease as it limits physical contact among people, GCash said.
