QCPD inmate positive for COVID

Romina Cabrera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A female inmate of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The woman, who was arrested on drug charges on March 10, was isolated in a separate room in the Kamuning police station. She has yet to be transferred to a quarantine facility.

The inmate was swabbed for coronavirus when she gave birth at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center on April 18. The results were released on April 25.

The QCPD released the information on the inmate’s test result yesterday.

QCPD spokesperson Capt. Johanna Sazon said the city government will put up an isolation tent where the inmate will be transferred.

She added that the inmate was asymptomatic and they still do not know how she was able to contract the virus.

The QCPD is still coordinating with the city health office for the testing of other inmates.

Two weeks ago, at least nine inmates from the Quezon City Male Dormitory tested positive for COVID-19.

The Quezon City Male Dormitory and the Kamuning police station are in close proximity along EDSA.
