MANILA, Philippines — A police officer who allegedly demanded an airconditioning unit from the family of a drug suspect was arrested in Cebu City on Tuesday.

Cpl. Wenefredo Olangayo of the Waterfront police station 3 and his partner Jevy Rea Gelig were apprehended in an entrapment by operatives of the police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) in Barangay Tejero at around 3:15 p.m.

IMEG director Col. Ronald Lee said the operation stemmed from the complaint of the family of an alleged drug dealer who was arrested in a sting.

“This is in line with our continuous effort to identify and arrest police scalawags amid the pandemic we are facing,” Lee said.

Olangayo and Gelig are facing charges for robbery extortion.
