MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has received P5 million in cash as a donation from the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Mayor Joy Belmonte received the monetary donation from INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo through INC General Auditor Glicerio Santos Jr., during a courtesy call at the church’s central office in the city on Saturday.

A total of 2,000 masks were also donated by the church.

The donation is intended to assist the local government as the country faces a public health crisis over the coronavirus pandemic.

“Marami po tayong matutulungan na mga pamilya (We will be able to help many families with the donation), and I’m very grateful. Please accept, from the bottom of my heart, my deepest gratitude to you,” Belmonte said, during the courtesy call.

As of yesterday, 49 COVID-19 cases in the city were reported, with at least three deaths.

Two barangays have been put under extreme enhanced community quarantine.
