Go supports COVID-19 hazard pay for government workers

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go yesterday expressed support for granting hazard pay to government personnel who physically report for work during the enhanced community quarantine to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“The government workers who still go to work during this time put their lives at risk, so they deserve proper compensation,” Go said.

Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado has asked President Duterte to issue an administrative order that will authorize national government agencies, including state universities and colleges and government-owned and -controlled corporations, to grant COVID-19 hazard pay not exceeding P500 per day.

Among those qualified to receive hazard pay are those who occupy regular, contractual or casual positions and contract of service and job order workers who were authorized to physically report for work, Go said.
