1,137 hogs culled in Isabela due to ASF
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan , Philippines – The number of hogs culled in Isabela due to African swine fever (ASF) has breached 1,000, the provincial veterinary office reported yesterday.
Angelo Nui, Isabela veterinary office head, said 1,137 pigs were culled from 23 barangays in 11 towns.
The provincial government provided assistance of P5,000 each to affected backyard hog raisers.
The first ASF cases in Isabela were reported in Mallig and Quirino towns last month. At least 77 pigs were culled.
In Cagayan, 56 hogs were culled in Solana, where pigs in five barangays tested positive for ASF.
Testing of blood samples of hogs infected with the swine disease is ongoing, according to the Department of Agriculture.
