Quake rocks Zamboanga
ZAMBOANGA , Philippines — A magnitude-4.9 earthquake jolted parts of Zamboanga peninsula on Tuesday night but no damage was reported, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake occurred at 10:55 p.m., and was centered 33 kilometers northwest of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.
It was felt at Intensity 4 in Siocon; Intensity 3 in Zamboanga City, Tampilisan, Liloy, Gutalac, Baliguian, and Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay; and Intensity 1 in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.
Phivolcs said a magnitude-3.8 aftershock hit parts of Eastern Visayas on Tuesday night.
Instrumental Intensity 3 was recorded in Naval, Biliran and Ormoc City.
Intensity 2 was felt in Palo, Leyte and Borongan City in Eastern Samar.
Phivolcs said instrumental intensity is the measure of shaking as recorded by an instrument called intensity meter.
The epicenter of the quake was located five kilometers east of Leyte town. It was an aftershock of a magnitude-5.5 quake that jolted the province on Monday morning.
