‘Peace bridge’ to rise in former Abu lair
COTABATO CITY, Philippines – The provincial government of Basilan is constructing a bridge connecting a former hideout of the bandit group Abu Sayyaf to trading centers in Sumisip town.
The bridge will link communities in Pansul Basih to Barangay Tumahubong and other towns on the island province.
Gov. Jim Salliman said the bridge would provide farmers and school children access to markets and schools in Barangays Tumahubong and Baiwas, which is a former stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf.
“This bridge is an icon of hope and peace as the area rises from security problems and armed conflicts,” Salliman said
