Vendor shot during robbery dies
MANILA, Philippines — A noodle vendor who was shot during a robbery in Manila last week died on Tuesday night, relatives confirmed.
Samson Bautista, 41, who had shown signs of recovering when Mayor Isko Moreno visited him at the Philippine General Hospital last week, died at around 9:21 p.m.
Bautista left behind a wife and three children.
A surveillance footage of the attack on Bautista went viral and helped police identify his assailant.
Police officers arrested Alexander Ogdamina, 38, in a followup operation near his house in Baseco Compound less than 24 hours after he robbed and shot Bautista.
Ogdamina blamed the victim for not giving him the bag containing the money during the robbery.
“Maybe they think that people like us are just joking. We’re not. When we say it, we do it. If he only gave me his bag, I wouldn’t have shot him,” he said in Filipino.
The suspect was charged with robbery with homicide, a bailable offense, and is currently detained at the Manila Police District headquarters detention facility.
Bautista’s remains were brought to Tiaong, Quezon, where he will be buried.
