4 die, 3 hurt in Negros road mishap

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Four persons, including a minor, died while three others were injured when a car hit a motorcycle in Manapla, Negros Occidental before dawn yesterday.

Jeljuredi Labrador, 15, and Angeles Salmorin, 83, were declared dead on arrival at the Ikaayong Lawas Foundation Hospital in Victorias City and Corazon Locsin Montelilbano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City, respectively.

The other fatalities – Dolores Granada, 83, and Delina Abana, 56 – died  while being treated at the CLMMRH.

Investigation showed that a Mitsubishi Mirage with five persons on board was traveling in Barangay Tortosa when it hit a motorcycle parked along the road at around 2:45 a.m.

Labrador, who was sitting on the motrocycle, was thrown off and dragged away by the car.

The car crashed into a gate of a nearby house while the motorcycle fell into a canal.

Three of the fatalities were passengers of the car. The others, Anabelle Estil, 39, and Rolinda Barte, 77, were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Driver Froilan Samillano also suffered injuries and was taken to the police station after receiving treatment, according to Capt. Jaynick Bermudez, officer-in-charge of the Manapla police.

Samillano’s passengers came from the town of Isabela and were headed to Cadiz City to seek treatment from a faith healer, Bermudez said.

Meanwhile, a couple died while their eight-year-old son was injured when their vehicle collided with a truck loaded with construction materials in  Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur on Thursday.

The vehicle, driven by James Oliver Marzan, 34, was traveling in Barangay San Juan when it figured in the accident at around 6 a.m.

Marzan and his wife Rho Anne, 34, died while being rushed to the Sta. Lucia District Hospital where their son Michael Alfred remained confined.

Truck driver Geronimo Valdez Jr., 51, surrendered to responding police officers.  – With Raymund Catindig
