50,000 police pensioners ‘missing’ – PNP
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa has ordered an accounting of police retirees nationwide after the PNP discovered that more than half of the 92,000 listed beneficiaries are “missing.”
The PNP Retirement and Benefits Administration Service (PRBS) yesterday started the accounting process in compliance with Gamboa’s directive.
Lt. Col. Grace de Castro, who heads the PRBS pension and gratuity division, said only 42,000 police retirees have updated accounts in the list as of last year. The remaining 50,000 are unaccounted for.
“It’s possible that the pensioners are no longer physically fit to travel to police regional offices to update their accounts,” she said.
Starting July this year, De Castro said retirees may transact at their respective municipal and city police stations to update their accounts.
The accounting of police retirees will last until March 17. Pensioners can visit police provincial offices during office hours from Monday to Saturday.
Pensioners who are physically unfit to travel have the option to have their biometrics taken at their homes.
They only need to inform the PRBS about their medical condition. The PRBS will send personnel to the pensioner’s residence for their biometrics to be taken, according to De Castro.
She said police retirees are required to update their biometrics every year.
