Policewoman hacked dead

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  – A policewoman was killed while her cousin was wounded after they were allegedly hacked by their uncle in this city on Wednesday night.

Senior M/Sgt. Marjorie Mauricio, 45, was declared dead on arrival at the Labuan Public Hospital, according to Capt. Edwin Duco, spokesman for the Zamboanga City police.

Mauricio died due to hack wounds in the arms and neck. Her cousin Sweet Grace Santos, 43, was taken to the same hospital for treatment of injuries in the arms.

Investigation showed the victims had a spat with their uncle, Felixberto Esperat, 60, at their house in Barangay Labuan at around 9:30 p.m.

The suspect reportedly took out a bolo and hacked his nieces. A manhunt has been launched for the suspect, according to Capt. Alvin Cabayacruz, officer-in-charge of the city police Station 10, where Mauricio had been assigned.
