Belmonte heads road clearing task force
MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has formed a task force to comply with the second round of road clearing operations set to start today.
Belmonte created the Quezon City Task Force Road Clearing 2.0, which is directly under her office.
She will head the task force, with her chief of staff and assistant city administrator for operations as vice chairpersons.
Belmonte said she wanted to make sure that the gains of the road clearing operations would be sustained.
Members of the task force include heads of city departments, with the chief of the Barangay and Community Relations Department as the point person.
The task force is tasked to monitor the road clearing operations at the barangay level, as well as craft strategies to ensure the compliance and cooperation of barangay officials.
Belmonte said the city government would extend support to the barangays, but also impose sanctions on non-compliant officials.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government has ordered local chief executives to continue the implementation of President Duterte’s directive to clear public roads of obstructions.
Quezon City obtained a score of medium compliance during the first round of road clearing operations.
