Manila city hall employee nabbed for estafa, theft

MANILA, Philippines — An employee of the Manila city hall was arrested for alleged estafa and qualified theft on Thursday afternoon.

Mayor Isko Moreno ordered the filing of cases against Sherylet Lising, an administrative aide 1 assigned at the city treasurer’s office.

Lising was among seven employees who had been invited by police for questioning after a manager’s check that was paid by a company got lost then found its way back to the treasury office after it was used to pay the arrears of another firm in January.

Lising initially denied any involvement in the anomaly. When police confiscated her cell phone, she admitted her fault, but refused to name her accomplices.
