Duterte to firefighters: Don’t abuse use of sirens
MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte yesterday urged firefighters not to abuse the use of sirens to violate traffic rules when responding to fire incidents.
Duterte made the remark as he led the turnover of 74 new vehicles to the Bureau of Fire Protection to boost the BFP’s disaster response capabilities.
The vehicles from Isuzu Motors Japan consist of 51 fire trucks, 20 water tenders and three rescue trucks.
The turnover was held at the Armed Forces of the Philippines headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
The trucks will be distributed to the cities and municipalities nationwide, according to the BFP.
The fire trucks can hold up to 1,000 gallons of water, the BFP said.
The trucks also feature an operation manual, which can be viewed beside the control panel.
BFP chief Jose Embang Jr. lauded Duterte’s unwavering support to improve the bureau’s equipment.
“The fire trucks are addition to the assets of the BFP as the summer season is approaching,” Embang said.
