3 alleged robbers shot dead

MANILA, Philippines — Three suspected robbers were killed in what police said was a shootout in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Probers have yet to identify the fatalities who were shot dead along Tawiran Extension in Barangay Bagumbayan at around 2:45 a.m. 

The encounter came shortly after two of the suspects allegedly robbed two women of their cell phones and personal belongings. The third suspect stood watch for authorities.

Roving policemen responded to the scene and chased the suspects.

Police said the robbers allegedly opened fire, prompting them to retaliate, killing the suspects on the spot.

Lawmen recovered two cell phones, wallets and other personal belongings of the victims.

Probers said a .38-caliber handgun, a .45-caliber Colt pistol, a gun replica and live ammunition were also found at the scene.
