Abra cop shot dead

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A police officer was gunned down near a police station in Villaviciosa town in Abra yesterday.

M/Sgt. Frederick Ybañez, formerly of the Cebu provincial police, was in front of his boarding house when two men who emerged from an adjacent restaurant shot him several times.

Ybañez died on the way to the Seares Memorial Hospital.  

Bullet shells for a 9mm pistol and a caliber .45 were recovered at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
