Cop tagged in Maguindanao massacre surrenders
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A police officer implicated in the Maguindanao massacre surrendered on Tuesday.
Police Officer 1 Ysmael Baraguir of the Maguindanao police was picked up by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in Barangay Linandangan in Pagalungan town.
Authorities said Col. James Gulmatico, BARMM police director, and local officials interceded for Baraguir’s surrender.
Five members of the Ampatuan family were among 28 people convicted of 57 counts of murder over the Maguindanao massacre.
Two of the 80 suspects who remain at large when the decision was handed down last month – Kagi Faizal and Gambayan Kasim – were arrested in Datu Saudi Ampatuan and Shariff Aguak on Jan. 6 and Jan. 10, respectively. They were arraigned on Tuesday.
