25 pigs intercepted in Ilocos Sur

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — Authorities intercepted 25 hogs suspected to be affected with African swine fever (ASF) at a quarantine checkpoint in Barangay Bitalag, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur yesterday.

Police said the pigs were in an Isuzu truck bound for Suyo town.

Mariano Licnad, 67, the owner of the vehicle, and truck driver Marjo Morales, 24, were held for questioning after they failed to present pertinent documents.

The Ilocos Sur provincial government has banned the entry of hogs and processed meat amid the ASF scare.
