Pangasinan eyes stricter measures vs ASF
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines — The task force on African swine fever in this province has been ordered to intensify measures to prevent the spread of ASF.
At an emergency meeting on Sunday, Gov. Amado Espino III ordered an investigation and, if necessary, the filing of charges against unscrupulous individuals responsible for new ASF cases in Binmaley and Malasiqui.
Espino also approved a recommendation for a reward system to encourage the public to participate in the campaign against ASF.
Provincial veterinarian Jovito Tabarejos said the Department of Agriculture was supposed to declare Pangasinan ASF-free had no new cases were reported.
Meanwhile, in Ilocos Sur, at least 2,400 kilos of processed meat were seized at a quarantine checkpoint in Barangay Bio, Tagudin on Sunday.
Police said Meldrick Baptista, 31, failed to present the necessary documents for the transport of what he claimed to be chicken and beef siomai to Laoag City.
The Ilocos Sur provincial government has banned the entry of processed meat in the province amid the ASF scare.
