LRT-2 shuts down aircon amid ashfall

MANILA, Philippines — The air-conditioning system of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) was shut down yesterday to prevent ash from Taal Volcano from damaging the trains.

The trains’ windows were also closed so as not to expose commuters to volcanic ash, according to the LRT-2 management.

The operations of the LRT Line 1, Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and Philippine National Railways continued yesterday amid the spread of ash to the metropolis.

Several stations of the LRT-2, which runs from Pasig to Manila, have been operating on a limited capacity since October last year after a fire damaged its power transformer.
