Devotees get engaged during Traslacion

MANILA, Philippines — A devotee proposed to his girlfriend at the height of the Traslacion, an annual religious procession dedicated to the Black Nazarene, in Manila yesterday.

Kim Noel Yamat and his girlfriend Mary Joie Flores, both 23, were following the procession along Vergara street in Quiapo when Yamat asked Flores to marry him shortly before noon.

Flores said yes as their relatives and other devotees cheered. 

Photographers from the city government’s public information office took photos of the couple while the proposal was ongoing.

Yamat said they were going to tie the knot in March.

He said he had been planning to pop the question and decided to do it during the Traslacion since they were both devotees of the Black Nazarene.
