Pasig: P150 million savings ‘biggest victory’
PASIG, Philippines — Saving P150 million by tweaking the procurement process of the Pasig City government is the “biggest victory” for Mayor Vico Sotto.
In a Facebook post yesterday, he said the savings, made from July to November last year, were a result of “cleaning up and reforming the procurement (or purchase of government supplies),” adding that procurement is “open secret, the biggest source of corruption.”
Sotto earlier announced that he instructed the city government that all approved budgets for contracts should be “reduced by a minimum of 10 percent,” noting that “previously, almost all winning bids were within one percent of the ABC, which is a red flag, according to auditors.”
Part of the P150 million was later used to distribute “Pamaskong Handog” bags, which contained grocery items, and would also be used as additional funds for the city government’s health services this year.
The city government gave away 400,000 Pamaskong Handog bags during the Christmas season last year, higher than the original target of 180,000, he claimed.
