5 dead in Quezon road mishap

MULANAY, Quezon, Philippines — Five persons died when their tricycle collided with a van along the highway in Barangay Sta. Rosa in this town at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

Police identified the victims as Manny, Benny Jay, Crisjane and Crisjay, all surnamed Raymundo, and Cristy Bercero. They were thrown out from the tricycle due to the impact of the crash and were declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Lt. Col. Chitadel Gaoiran, Calabarzon police spokesperson, said the tricycle was traveling toward the town proper while the van was on its way to Catanauan when the accident occurred.

The driver of the van, Arnel Tesico, told police he lost control of the wheel while overtaking another vehicle.

Tesico is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property.
