ASF-hit hog raisers in Pangasinan receive compensation

BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan, Philippines — Hog raisers in four barangays in this town whose pigs were affected by African swine fever (ASF) have received compensation from the local government. 

About 2,000 households received P1,000 each on Dec. 22 and Dec. 27 for each pig culled. 

At least 1,014 pigs were culled in Barangays Apalen, Carungay, Tatarac and Inirangan due to ASF, according to the  municipal government’s information office. 

On Dec. 22, Mayor Cezar Quiambao, Abono party-list Rep. Conrado  Estrella III and representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended cash assistance to affected hog raisers.
