Suspect shot dead while being transported in Laguna

LAGUNA, Philippines — A kidnap suspect was shot dead by unidentified men who snatched him as he was being transported to the Los Baños jail yesterday.

Joshi Tarun, who had been detained at the Calamba City jail, and his four escorts were in a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) vehicle when five armed men in another vehicle blocked their path along Barangay Bucal at around 10 a.m., Lt. Col. Gene Licud, city police chief, said.

Licud said the suspects disarmed, blindfolded and tied the hands of the BJMP personnel.

The suspects reportedly brought Tarun to Barangay Lamesa, where he was shot several times.

Tarun’s escorts – Jail Officer 3 Ernesto Adap and JO1s Michael Esteves, Burito Bonifacio Dennis and Nikko Ortega – are facing an investigation.
