Drug war: Suspect slain in Laguna; P.4 million shabu seized
MANILA, Philippines — A “high-value” drug suspect was killed in an alleged shootout with police officers in a sting in Lumban, Laguna yesterday.
Police said Jeffrey Brosas drew his gun when he sensed he had sold shabu to an undercover agent in Barangay Lewin.
Brosas was said to be a member of the Macmac Punio gang, which is tagged in contract killings and the supply of illegal drugs in nearby towns.
Col. Eleazar Matta, Laguna police director, said a caliber .45 pistol and 75 grams with an estimated street value of P460,000 were recovered from the fatality.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) arrested a drug suspect in President Duterte’s drug watchlist in Iloilo City on Wednesday.
PNP-AKG director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo said the arrest of Anwar Macadatu, 36, was based on a warrant issued by South Cotabato Regional Trial Court Branch 26 Judge Roberto Atco for violation of the Comprehensive Drugs Act.
Bail was set at P200,000
Estomo said Macadatu, who had been the subject of anti-drug operations in South Cotabato since 2014, was wounded in an earlier drug sting, but managed to escape.
