Another missing in Isabela floods

TUGUEGARAO CITY,  Cagayan, Philippines — A 30-year-old overseas Filipino worker swept away by floodwaters in Roxas, Isabela on Friday remained missing, authorities said yesterday.

Roderick Palapuz, who had just returned from Saudi Arabia, and his companion were pushing logs submerged in floodwater to higher ground in Barangay Simimbaan when the incident occurred.

Palapuz’s companion managed to swim to safety.

Authorities said seven persons died in massive flooding spawned by non-stop rains in Isabela and this province since Thursday. Two others were reported missing.

Ilagan City Mayor Jose Marie Diaz suspended classes anew yesterday as several villages remained submerged in floodwater.

Pamplona Mayor Estrelita Ancheta-Aguinaldo said the road linking her town to Ilocos Norte is still not passable due to landslides.
