Cop shot dead

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer tagged in the shooting of his superior was killed in an alleged encounter with fellow officers in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur yesterday.

Pat. Jhon Paul Gerida, 28, reportedly refused to surrender to the officers who tracked him down in connection with the shooting of his superior Lt. Col. Rex Lomente, chief of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company.

Probers recovered a .45 caliber pistol at the scene.

Gerida and Lomente reportedly figured in a quarrel on Friday night, which resulted in the shooting.

Lomente was taken to the Tagum Regional Hospital for treatment of a gunshot to the head.
