PNP to street cops: Don’t be scared of name-droppers
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa yesterday ordered street police officers to refuse to be intimidated by name-droppers who flash the calling cards of their “friends in high places.”
“We will no longer tolerate this. Anyone who will not enforce the law, just because somebody tells them that he is a friend of some government big shot, will be charged administratively for negligence,” he said in a statement.
Amid the worsening traffic in Metro Manila, Gamboa said many motorists are breaking traffic rules to get ahead, especially during the holiday season.
He also ordered police officers to strictly prohibit the use of sirens and blinkers for motorists not authorized by law to use them.
“With so many law breakers this holiday season, everyone must follow the law and should be treated equally,” Gamboa said.
