Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has summoned disqualified Duterte Youth party-list nominee Ronald Cardema to appear before the poll body anew over a complaint that he committed material misrepresentation.

In a subpoena issued on Wednesday, the Comelec ordered Cardema to submit a counter-affidavit and other supportng documents and appear before its law department on Dec. 13.

“Failure on your part to comply with this subpoena shall be considered as a waiver of your right to present your defense and the case shall be considered submitted for resolution based on the evidence on record,” the Comelec said.

Cardema was accused of misrepresenting himself as being eligible to run and serve as a nominee of the Duterte Youth party-list despite being overaged.

If found guilty, Cardema faces perpetual disqualification from holding public office, the loss of his right to vote and a prison term of up to six years.
