4 die in Luzon road mishaps

TUGUEGARAO, Philippines  – Four women died in separate vehicular accidents that occurred in Ilocos Norte and Isabela over the weekend.

Alexis Maxene Abaluyon, 19, was traveling in Barangay Uno in Paoay when her car collided with a pickup driven by Anthony John Mangusag, 20, shortly before dawn yesterday.

Abaluyon died at the scene while her companions – Kendrick Molines, 22; John Paul Mandac, 16, and Kyla Shane Blas, 17 – were taken to a hospital along with Mangusag for treatment of injuries.

Meanwhile, in Isabela, Angel Bulusan and her companions Evangelyn Salvador and Ann Claire Marie Camarao were on a motorcycle when they were hit by a pickup in Barangay Payac, Jones on Saturday.

The victims were declared dead on arrival at the Prospero Bello Community Hospital.

Reports said truck driver Sonny Boy Matias, 29, switched lane, causing him to hit the victims.

Navyman shoots ex-cop dead

A former policeman was shot dead allegedly by an officer of the Philippine Navy following a quarrel in Indang, Cavite on Saturday.

M/Sgt. Jose Alcantara died from a gunshot to the head following the incident that occurred at around 9:30 p.m. in Barangay Poblacion III.

Petty Officer 2 Dimple Feranil, 43, was arrested at the M.V. Santiago Medical Center in Trece Martires City where he was brought for treatment of a gunshot wound in the leg.

Probers said Alcantara confronted Feranil for allegedly firing a gun.

Feranil, who was reportedly drunk, took out a pistol and shot Alcantara, hitting him in the head.
