Bishop warns of fake Facebook page

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A Catholic bishop warned the public yesterday against a fake Facebook page allegedly asking for donations to procure a tabernacle in Cebu.

Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David said he has been receiving text messages from friends asking if he was in Cebu and if he was raising funds for the purchase of the tabernacle.

“Please ignore those messages. I am not in Cebu and I am not raising funds to buy an expensive tabernacle. Somebody created a fake FB account using my photo and has been sending private messages to my friends using that account,” David said.

“Please don’t get swindled by that impostor,” he added.

Some of David’s friends commented on his post and urged him to report the incident to the authorities and to Facebook so that the account will be blocked while some have extended prayers for his safety.
