Moderately strong quakes hit Negros
MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes hit Negros Oriental yesterday, with no report of damage or injuries, state seismologists said.
The quakes, with magnitudes of 3.8 and 3.9, occurred at about 1:21 a.m. and 4:05 a.m., respectively, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The epicenter of the first quake was located eight kilometers northwest of Luzurriaga town. The tremor was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Luzurriaga, Bacong and Dumaguete City; Intensity 3 in Sibulan, and Intensity 2 in Tanjay City.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the second quake was located nine kms northwest of Luzurriaga. The quake was felt at Intensity 4, also in Luzzuriaga, and Intensity 3 in Sibulan.
