La Union village chief shot dead

BAUANG, La Unionaa, Philippines —  The president of this town’s Association of Barangay Captains was shot dead while playing slot machine in Barangay Baccuit Sur on Wednesday.

Maj. Danilo Ligayo, town police chief, said Noel Gallardo, chairman of Barangay Pagdalagan Sur, was declared dead on arrival at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center.

Ligayo said the suspect was identified as Jeffrey Escobal, 40, a resident of Barangay Aurora in Alicia, Isabela.

Probers are looking into a grudge as the motive for the killing.
