SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan, Philippines — Three persons drowned while two children were reported missing while swimming in Agno River in Barangay Salinap in this city on Wednesday.

Lt. Col. Garie Noel Pascua, city police  officer-in-charge, identified the fatalities as Jaymark Zuñiga and Jaypee John Lacaba, both aged 12, and Sheryl Palania, 30.

Dionisio Lacaba and Reymart Peralta, both 11, remain missing.

Initial investigation showed the children were playing basketball near the river when they decided to swim, but were swept away by the strong current to a deep portion of the water.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office sought the help of concerned government agencies to conduct search and rescue operations.
