PLDT, Zamora to make San Juan a digital city

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan City government will go digital in rendering services to the public, Mayor Francis Zamora announced yesterday.

Zamora will sign today a memorandum of agreement with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) chairman and chief executive officer Manuel V. Pangilinan and Multisys chief David Almirol for the project dubbed “Makabagong San Juan” mobile app.

The signing will be held at the city hall atrium at around 3 p.m.

The project seeks to improve the ease of doing business in the city through faster interconnectivity, making local government services more accessible to the people.

“We are bringing the city government closer to San Juaneños by digitalizing public services. This is another step closer to the realization of our vision to make San Juan a smart city,” Zamora said.

Kiosks will be used to pay utility bills and have access to other services such as applications for business permits and real property taxes, licensing services, among others.

Under the agreement, WiFi services will be available at the Agora Market, San Juan Medical Center, Pinaglabanan Shrine, Polytechnic University of the Philippines San Juan campus and other key areas in the city.

“We are happy to work with the San Juan City government in realizing their smart city vision. We look forward to helping Mayor Francis Zamora further enhance the government’s ability to respond more efficiently to the needs of his constituents and elevate San Juan to be at par with other modern cities in Asia and the world,” Pangilinan said in a statement.
