5 hurt in Laguna road mishap

LAGUNA, Philippines — A teacher and four members of her family were injured in a road accident in Barangay Sta. Maria Magdalena, San Pablo City on Sunday.

Juanita Abainza, 53, a teacher at the Imok Elementary School and a sister of Philippine STAR employee Gener Velasco, and her son Jashley Ray Ivan, remain confined at the Batangas City Hospital.

Abainza’s husband Mariano, 65, and their two other children Ray Anne Jade and Jewelrie May were also taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries, but had been discharged.

Initial investigation showed the victims were on their way home after attending the wake of a relative when their tricycle was hit by a truck at around 3 a.m.

The family is seeking the help of authorities to identify and arrest the truck driver.
