10 hurt as factory workers, guards clash
MANILA, Philippines — At least 10 persons were injured after security guards clashed with the striking workers of a factory in Pasig City over the weekend.
City police chief Col. Moises Villaceran said a commotion ensued at the factory in Barangay Kalawaan when security guards dispersed the protesters who pelted them with stones and metal bars.
Police officers intervened to prevent the violence from escalating, but to no avail.
Probers said four protesters and six security guards were injured during the clash. They were taken to the Rizal Medical Center for treatment.
Twenty-three protesters, composed of 17 men and six women, were taken into police custody.
Police said charges of physical injuries, alarm and scandal as well as illegal possession of bladed weapons would be filed against the workers.
Around 50 workers have been holding protests against the factory’s alleged unfair labor practices.
