Chinese held for extorting P14 million from POGO

MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese was apprehended yesterday for allegedly extorting P14 million from a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) in Manila.

Sun Kai was was nabbed in an entrapment operation hatched by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in front of a hotel in Malate.

CIDG chief Maj. Brian Andulan said Sun allegedly threatened to kidnap POGO operator Xiao Long if he failed to pay two million RMB or P14 million.

After an initial payment was made, police said the suspect allegedly demanded from Xiao P200,000 weekly as protection money.

The suspect, who has been in the country for three days, came from Guanzhou, China and may be part of an extortion ring, police said.

The suspect is being held by police on charges of robbery and extortion.
