5 dead in Batangas, Benguet road mishaps
Manila, Philippines — Five people died in road accidents in Benguet and Batangas yesterday.
Dennis Begya, driver of a Toyota Tamaraw FX; his brother Samuel, and Leonardo Oyad died at the scene when their vehicle plunged into a 400-meter ravine in Barangay Bogao, Kabayan, Benguet at around 3:30 a.m.
Franklin Pay-oen was injured.
Police said they were informed about the accident only at about 7 a.m.
In Batangas, bystanders Armando Atienza and Michael Adaya were pronounced dead on arrival at the Polymedic Hospital in Taal town after they were hit by a wayward truck in Barangay San Jose shortly after midnight.
Ten other people were wounded and taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Col. Edwin Quilates, Batangas police director, said a Mitsubishi Canter was traveling to Sta. Teresita town when the driver, Jearland del Mundo, 19, lost control of the wheel while overtaking another vehicle.
A manhunt for Del Mundo is underway.
