Soldier killed in Mountain Province clash with Reds

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A soldier was killed and a police officer was wounded in an encounter with communist guerrillas in Barangay Soquib, Besao, Mountain Province on Thursday.

 The fatality, Cpl. Felimon Naganag, 36, was with the Army’s Special Forces. Patrolman Hebron Awisan is with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion.

 The military said the clash occurred when government troopers patroling the boundary of Barangays Soquib, Besao and Balugan, Sagada were fired at by members of the Leonardo Pacsi Command of the New People’s Army.
